Race 1. (12:40) Ronald Mcdonald House Charities 1600m
9 Angland (Bet Now: $SP.00) for me. Price/Kent trained gelding that comes here four weeks between runs since a dominant win on Murray Bridge Cup Day when on speed and trucking before being clicked up and away he went, drawing clear to win quite impressively. Good test here against likely types but confident he measures up.
1 Nation’s Call (Bet Now: $SP.00) will jump on the bunny and take running down. He resumed over the mile on Moe Cup Day when leading throughout to win, and credit to him, he was there to be beaten but he found under pressure to fend them off and get the job done. Firmer deck, good racing style, hard to beat.
5 Prince Eric (Bet Now: $SP.00) is an interesting runner. Former UK galloper that makes his Australian debut for Archie Alexander. Most of his recent runs have come on Synthetic tracks but he was winning and winning well. Trial at Mildura was good, I’d watch the market and see what it does.
Race 2. (13:15) Inglis Banner 1000m
3 Latin Boss (Bet Now: $SP.00) looks a nice mover for Team Hayes. Street Boss colt that debuts off the back of impressive jumpout work, winning two jumpouts here, and each time he has looked to move with something under the hood and something to give. Stable has had a fab start to the season with their juveniles so happy to be in his corner.
1 Leave No Doubt (Bet Now: $SP.00) has race experience on his side, which will carry him a long way. He debuted over 1000m at Bendigo when just off the speed before being given clear air, letting down with purpose late to win and win well. Stable has a good record in these early 2YO races and with race experience, commands respect.
4 Red Barron (Bet Now: $SP.00) is on the back up after debuting on Tuesday in the Maribyrnong Plate. He got back to last and while he was never threatening, he found the line well enough in defeat. Better for the run, has a good draw, he’s a knockout hope.
Race 3. (13:50) Queen Elizabeth Stakes 2600m
7 Kinesiology (Bet Now: $2.60) is hard to beat, clearly. Import that makes his Australian debut for Chris Waller after racing in Europe where he showed good promise. He looks a 6-12 months project and likely has eyes on the first Tuesday in November next year ala Soulcombe. Hard to beat, but perhaps on the short side re betting.
2 Berkeley Square (Bet Now: $6.00) is flying for Dan O’Sullivan. He ran last Wednesday in the Bendigo Cup where he got back to near last in the run and he found the line strongly but was clearly no match for Sea King, who was dominant in winning. Flying, in career best form and commands respect.
3 Amade (Bet Now: $9.00) is eleven years of age but is racing as well as ever. He comes through the Geelong Cup where he just got too far back in the run but really liked the way he finished his race off in defeat behind Onesmoothoperator. The rise in trip I like and his best is good enough to be dangerous.
Race 4. (14:30) Always Welcome Stakes 1200m
1 Front Page (Bet Now: $SP.00) is going to take beating here for Matty Dale. He resumed in The Kosciuszko where he went hard in front, running fast splits, and that just gassed him late when run down by Far Too Easy. Better for the run, he’s had time to recover, proven down the straight, hard to beat.
4 Rey Magnerio (Bet Now: $SP.00) is on the seven day back up after racing in the Rising Fast last Saturday, getting back in the run but charged late when second to Maharba. He’s racing well without much luck this prep but if the breaks go his way, he can threaten for sure.
10 Garza Blanca (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a talented animal for Ciaron Maher that resumes. He had a two run Autumn prep, placing fresh at Kembla before a plain effort at Bendigo and was spelled. He’ll be strong at the end of 1200m and there appears to be good speed in front.
Race 5. (15:10) Matriarch Stakes 2000m
10 Private Legacy (Bet Now: $11.00) is the each way bet for me. Greg Hickman trained mare that was very good in defeat two back at Caulfield before going to the Tesio where she wasn’t suited by gate one and the tight track. Much better set up this time around and with room to move and wind up, she’s hard to beat.
9 Little Mix (Bet Now: $12.00) is getting towards peak fitness and did win during Cup Week last year. She comes through the Tesio at The Valley where she was a bit one paced when asked for the effort but she stayed on and was good in defeat when third to Lady Jones. Hard fit, back onto a bigger track, she appeals.
12 Foxy Cleopatra (Bet Now: $46.00) is getting towards D-Day for the prep. Two runs back have been plain, firstly here when struggling on the bog before going to the Seymour Cup where she had a suck run but was one of the first beaten. Perhaps the rise in trip helps and her best is good enough to be a threat at a price.
Race 6. (15:50) Champions Sprint 1200m
5 Bella Nipotina (Bet Now: $3.60) is the one to beat, and comfortably, if last Saturday hasn’t busted her. That was an arrogant win in the Russell Balding and yes, the race was set up for her, but it was truly run, big time, and she won as if it was a barrier trial. Draws to stalk and finish strongest.
2 Overpass (Bet Now: $7.00) is hard to beat for me. This is a target race where most of these are here as an afterthought. He resumed in the Sydney Stakes at Randwick where he led throughout and gave nothing else a look in, winning in dominant fashion. Good racing style, good upside, tough…he has to be respected.
8 Estriella (Bet Now: $16.00) is proven down the straight and has found winning form. That came over 1000m at Caulfield where she led throughout and just lasted. She was tooweight and was back from 1200m so the win had good merit and with her best, I think she’s dangerous.
Race 7. (16:30) Champions Mile 1600m
4 Antino (Bet Now: $5.50) is the straight bat play for me. He has been kept on ice since that stunning win in the Toorak where he gave them a proper start but gave them a proper beating. Has eyes on Hong Kong so would want to run well here and does being fresh legs into this whereas the others may be beaten up.
1 Mr Brightside (Bet Now: $5.50) is a beauty and has to be respected. He was a query at 2000m and with the hot tempo, he was never a factor in the Cox Plate, finishing down the track. Hopefully we never see him at 2000m again and now he can focus on 1400m/1600m races. Hard to beat here.
13 Broadsiding (Bet Now: $6.00) is a star colt. Just lost the plot with the tempo of the Cox Plate but he picked himself up and kept finding the line behind Via Sistina. If he has petrol left in the tank, he is more than good enough to be dangerous against this lot.
Race 8. (17:10) Champions Stakes 2000m
I was late to the party but I am a believer of 10 Via Sistina (Bet Now: $1.70) now after the Cox Plate. Didn’t see Phar Lap and can only go off Winx, Black Caviar and co…but her Cox Plate win was one of the most dominant wins on an Australian race track. Just has to hold that here and she’ll be winning again.
The seven day back up has always been a masterstroke with 11 Atishu (Bet Now: $7.50) so with that in mind, I think she’s got to be respected. Race shape and pattern was in her corner but even allowing for that, she was superb in the Empire Rose last year and she’ll eat up 2000m. Dangerous if Via is off her game.
12 Deny Knowledge (Bet Now: $23.00) will land on speed and look to give her all. She led in the Caulfield Cup and tried hard but 2400m at that level just found her out late in the piece. Like her back to this trip and with her racing style, she’ll give a good sight. Doubt she wins but can run top four.
Race 9. (17:50) World Horse Racing Grand (Bm80) 1100m
10 Pisanello (Bet Now: $SP.00) is the straight bat play in the get out. Market said he was a good thing when resuming over 1000m at Warwick Farm and under a confident steer from J Mac, he made a mess of them and was quite dominant. Just has to stretch that brilliance to 1100m, handle the straight course, and he’ll be hard to beat.
13 Subsix (Bet Now: $SP.00) is yet to look down the straight but he’s a horse in form and rates highly off his win at Sale where he got better as the race went on and was strong to the line in winning. There is quality to this line up, but he’s a short course specialist and rates highly as one of the leading contenders.
15 Nation State (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a horse I’ve had time for and he has come back in beast mode. Jumped out like a rocket at Cranbourne before going to Ballarat over 1000m when first up, giving them a start and a beating in an electric return. Being trained as a sprinter, he looks a different, better horse. Hard to beat I say.
